Road & Footpath Repairs

Damage to asphalt roads and footpaths presents a major risk to the public through personal injury and property damage. Betta Asphalt works with local government, commercial and residential clients across the Melbourne Metropolitan area and Macedon Ranges Shire to deliver solutions for road and footpath repairs.

The Betta Asphalt Approach
Identifying why the damage occurred is fundamental to securing a long-term solution for our clients. Where required, we work together with other trades and professions to ensure that our solutions achieve best practice outcomes. Often the cause of damage can be identified before excavation, but in some cases excavation is required to confirm the reason for the failure.

Why does asphalt fail on roads and footpaths?
Poor drainage
If the failure is caused by poor drainage, a regrading of asphalt may be required. New drains may need to be installed
Sub grade and base failures
Sub grade and base failures account for nearly 90% of failures in asphalt pavements. Poor sub base preparation can lead to soft spots where insufficient excavation has occurred, or poor compaction / poor quality sub base material has been laid
Asphalt thickness
Another reason for failures is simply that the asphalt thickness is not enough for the type of traffic over the surface. In these instances, additional excavation is required to ensure the proper thickness is laid to cope with expected traffic
Tree root incursion
Root damage should be assessed by an aborist; roots may be removed or pruned and root barriers can be installed to prevent future incursion
